Provides advanced clinical support for OBGYN services, including surgical first-assisting and inpatient management across multiple hospital sites. Responsible for conducting daily rounds, responding to emergency department consultations, and coordinating care for gynecologic and obstetric patients.
Requires graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program with NCCPA certification and active licensure in Connecticut and New York. BLS certification is required, while ACLS and prior experience in women's health or robotic surgery are preferred.
The Physician Assistant (PA) for Obstetrics and Gynecology provides advanced clinical support for the expanding OBGYN service line across the Nuvance market. This role delivers surgical assistance, inpatient management, and consultative services to ensure high-quality, efficient, and coordinated care. The PA functions as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, supporting OBGYN surgical cases, inpatient rounding, Emergency Department consultations, and select obstetric surgical procedures under direct supervision. This position requires cross-site coverage within the Nuvance market, including Danbury, New Milford, Norwalk, and Putnam Hospitals, based on clinical volume and operational needs.
Surgical Services Provide first assist support for gynecologic surgical procedures, including minimally invasive, robotic, and open surgeries. Assist with cesarean deliveries as part of OB backup coverage. Support attending physicians performing surgical cases without resident or fellow coverage. Participate in pre-operative preparation and post-operative management to ensure continuity of care. Inpatient Care Conduct daily rounding on obstetrics and gynecology inpatients, including postoperative patients and those admitted for acute gynecologic conditions. Manage floor responsibilities to support efficient patient flow, timely discharges, and coordinated care planning. Document assessments, interventions, and care plans in accordance with hospital, regulatory, and compliance standards. Consultation Services Respond to inpatient and Emergency Department gynecology consults across assigned hospitals. Perform comprehensive evaluations, develop differential diagnoses, and initiate management plans in collaboration with supervising physicians. Communicate findings and recommendations to consulting teams and nursing staff in a timely and professional manner. Cross-Site Support and Operational Coverage Provide flexible coverage across the Nuvance market including Danbury, New Milford, Norwalk, and Putnam Hospitals based on service needs. Assist with resident coverage gaps for operating room cases at multiple sites. Contribute to the development and implementation of standardized workflows, clinical protocols, and best practices across the GYN service line. Answer obstetrics and gynecology service calls as the first line of triage and escalating clinical concerns to specialty physicians as required.� Education Skills Experience: Required Education and Licensure Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program. Current Connecticut and New York PA license or eligibility to obtain. National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification required. Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred.� Other Information: Preferred Experience Prior experience in gynecology, women�s health, or surgical specialties. Experience with inpatient management and surgical assisting. Experience with robotic surgery. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and decision-making skills. Commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice. Work Conditions and Schedule Variable hours based on operating room schedules, inpatient needs, and consult volume. Travel required between Nuvance market hospitals within the region. Participation in weekend, holiday, and on-call rotations based on departmental needs.
