  • Shift: DayJob Summary The Certified Medical Assistant or Medical Assistant renders care within their scope of practice, to patients in the clinic setting and coordinates the nursing office function as advised by the physicians. Maintains an environment consistent with safe, professional patient care while representing MMHC in a caring, professional manner. Essential Job Functions Job functions are those tasks, duties, and responsibilities that comprise the means of accomplishing the job’s purpose and objectives. Job functions are critical or fundamental to the performance of the job. They are the major functions for which the person in the job is held accountable.
  • Manages patient schedule/flow
  • Interfaces with other departments in appropriate manner to facilitate patient care
  • Returns patient calls in a timely manner
  • Rooms patient per department standards
  • Advocates for patient as needed
  • Communicates with appropriate care givers as needed
  • Maintains cleanliness of workstation
  • Complies with OSHA standards for safety, infection control
  • Communicates with management as needed to support highest level of patient care
  • Maintains licensure and keeps skills current
  • Taking and recording vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse) and observing overall patient condition.
  • Assisting with examinations and minor procedures, collecting and handling specimens appropriately for lab tests.
  • Assisting with wound care, changing bandages, inserting catheters, and other duties within the scope of practice.
  • Administering certain medications, i.e. IM, Oral, Subq, eye drops and nasal sprays.
  • Maintaining and documenting accurate and detailed patient records in the electronic medical record system.
  • Managing phone calls, filing paperwork, and performing other clerical duties.

    • Medical Assistance degree from an accredited MA program.

    • Ability to prioritize work to accomplish a variety of job responsibilities with the potential for numerous interruptions.
    • Ability to cope, handle a fluctuating workload and a willingness to pick up projects in times of decreased activity.
    • Taking initiative in making suggestions for improvement in the department, as well as in own job responsibilities.
    • Implementing medical procedural skills, nursing skills, interpersonal skills, documentation skills.
    • Ability to organize and multi-task with flexibility.
    • Good communication, documentation and time management skills.
    • Skilled at incorporating AIDET into professional practice.
    • Knowledge of role in patient confidentiality and protecting patient information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure as defined by HIPAA.
    • Ability to respond quickly and decisively to emergency situations while participating in shelter-in-place and disaster response protocols.
    • Ability to work with interdisciplinary teams, communicating effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers.
    • Ability to demonstrate the knowledge and skills essential for providing care to specific patient populations.
    • Ability to lift, move, and position patients and equipment.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Prefer six months to one-year related experience and/or training.
    • Prefer previous experience in a hospital or clinic setting
    • Prefer experience working with EPIC electronic health record system. Licenses & Certifications
    • Current CMA certification preferred.
    • CPR certification required. Computer Skills Skilled in data entry with great accuracy. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), Paycom and other information systems specific to position. Ability to thoroughly document clinical services, maintain accurate patient records, and effectively utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems, i.e. Epic. Reasoning & Critical Thinking Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in a variety of formats. Apply logical problem-solving and decision-making skills in complex situations and make sound decisions in real time, often under pressure (early warning signs, inconsistencies, potential complications) using critical thinking. Analyze data and scenarios to identify patterns, inconsistencies, and opportunities. Evaluate multiple approaches and propose innovative solutions with sound judgement. Able to work independently with limited supervision. Language & Communication Skills Ability to read, interpret, and act upon a variety of documents and information needed to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Able to communicate routine and occasionally complex ideas clearly in both written and verbal formats, adapting tone, style and messaging for a variety of audiences. Mathematics & Analytical Abilities Ability to accurately perform basic mathematical calculations (addition/subtraction/multiplication/division) in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Record and interpret clinical measurements. Accurately calculate patient data. Use EMR system and care documentation tools to support treatment.
