PURPOSE
The Registered Nurse provides individualized, goal directed nursing care through the use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing, in accordance with center policies and procedures. Carries out all duties while maintaining compliance and confidentiality and promoting the mission and philosophy of the organization.
Essential functions
Responsible for all activities associated with the delivery of quality nursing practices and duties assigned to this role.
Prepares the patient care area adequately, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are available.
Performs and documents head to toe assessment of patient upon arrival to PACU.
Assesses and maintains integrity of dressings and/or operative site. Reports abnormalities to the surgeon.
Demonstrates proper airway management techniques.
Monitors patients according to policy (vitals, airway, LOC, temperature, cardiac etc.).
Exhibits proper technique for IV catheter insertion, maintenance and removal.
Ensures patient meets discharge criteria.
Provides clear and concise discharge instructions.
Provides a safe and comforting environment for patients and family.
Assesses patient and family needs in order to provide quality care to assigned patients.
Evaluates patient’s response and intervenes appropriately for optimal outcome.

Develops, discusses, and communicates a realistic problem list (plan of care) for each patient, in collaboration with each patient, family, and significant other in order to address all identified needs.
Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to implement the medical plan of care, nursing interventions, and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient.
Evaluates the identified problems, care provided, and patient’s responses are reassessed in order meet patient and family needs to ensure overall quality of care delivered.
Maintains up‑to‑date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team, in order to ensure quality care.
Directs other licensed and non-licensed personnel in the provision of care to patients as assigned.
Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, center/service safety, and specific job-related hazards.
Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the center, as defined in the scope of service, to ensure that the unique nature of the client is addressed.

Other duties and responsibilities
Cross-trains to pre-op and PACU and work in those areas when requested.
Performs selected duties as delegated by the DON or others in authority.

Qualifications: Education and Experience
Required
High school diploma or GED.
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
Two (2) or more years RN experience.
Preferred
Bachelor’s degree.
ASC experience.
Certificate/License
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Texas required.
Current AHA approved Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course completion card and current AHA approved Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course completion card required.
Current AHA approved Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course completion card preferred.
Required to maintain a current registered nursing license and CPR certifications during employment.
