Job description
SciTech Services, Inc. (SciTech) is seeking an Animal Care Technician III to provide support in the welfare and well-being of various research animals. The Animal Care Technician III will maintain the health and condition of research animals by performing daily animal health checks and husbandry duties.
Duties
include but are not limited to:
Caring for animal species such as Non-Human Primates (NHP), rodents, rabbits, swine/mini-swine, ferrets, and guinea pigs.
Application of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), specified protocols, and regulatory requirements.
Responsible for feeding and watering animals according to specified diets, mealtimes, and correct portions. Ensure that water is clean, fresh, and readily available.
Monitor animal health by observing for signs of illness, injury, or abnormal behavior.
Conduct procedures such as multiple site injections, blood withdrawals, ear tagging and tissue sampling for genotyping.
Maintain accurate records of animal care, observations, feeding schedules, treatments, or behavior logs.
Help veterinarians or technicians with basic health checks, administering medications, or providing first aid.
Assist with safe handling of animals, considering factors such as species-specific behaviors, temperament, and size. May assist in the restraint of animals for procedures.
Perform routine breeding and weaning procedures.
Clean and sanitize animal enclosures, cages, and living areas. Remove waste, soiled bedding, and debris.
Provide oversight and monitoring of personnel.
Manual lifting requiring the ability to lift 50 lbs., pull, push, and handle cages, racks, large pieces of equipment, feed, bedding, and other materials in the research facility.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent education required.
Two years’ experience in research animal care and husbandry caring for animal species such as Non-Human Primates (NHP), rodents, rabbits, swine/mini-swine, ferrets, and guinea pigs.
Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate both verbally and in writing, with a positive attitude.
Must be able to stand for long periods of time, lift, pull, and push equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
Work is performed in an area that is noisy and has relatively high ambient temperature (greater than 77°F).
Must be able to properly use required personal protective equipment including putting on and removal.
Must have the ability to complete necessary documentation of collected data.
Citizenship/Clearance requirement
Candidates must be a U.S. citizen, able to obtain and maintain a secret clearance and pass a drug screening.
