Job description

Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and\nevaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Functions as a member of the\ninterdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures\nand performs related duties as required; performs nursing care for patients with\nmore complex needs with assistance and supervision. Assists with the management\nof patient care administered by other members of the nursing team. \n\nThe Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is a 20-bed tertiary and quaternary\nmedical/surgical intensive care unit that cares for critically ill neonates\nthrough adolescents. The majority of PICU patients arrive through our in-house,\nnurse-managed Transport Team and Access Center for care that can only be\nprovided at UCSF Medical Center.\n\nThese patients receive care for a variety of life-threatening medical and\nsurgical conditions. Nurses on this unit learn the skills necessary to maintain\nvital functions for these fragile children, while supporting their families\nthrough difficult times.\n\nThe PICU Registered Nurse will coordinate patient care in collaboration with\nphysicians, PICU CNS, Respiratory Therapists, Child Life, Social Work, Nutrition\nand Discharge Case Managers.
