Responsible for efficiently, effectively, and accurately examining and diagnosing surgical specimens in compliance with CLIA/CAP guidelines and other applicable regulations.
The shifts are 8 hours in length, M-F.
This is a high-volume lab!
- Key Responsibilities
- Review and interpret surgical pathology, cytology, and/or hematopathology specimens as assigned.
- Render accurate and timely diagnoses in accordance with established quality standards.
- Prepare and finalize pathology reports within required turnaround times.
- Consult with physicians and healthcare providers regarding diagnostic findings and patient management.
- Participate in quality assurance and quality improvement activities.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable regulatory, accreditation, and laboratory standards.
- Provide guidance and support to laboratory personnel as needed.
- Document findings and maintain records in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
- Board Certification in Anatomic and/or Clinical Pathology.
- Active and unrestricted medical license in the applicable state(s).
- Demonstrated expertise in pathology diagnosis and reporting.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently in a per-diem setting.
- Schedule
- Per diem/as-needed coverage.
- Flexible scheduling based on organizational needs and candidate availability.
Essential Responsibilities
- Accurately signs out and reads slides of Pathology cases.
- Follow ALL Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures and policies
- Prioritizes successful completion of STAT cases. Notifies clinicians of STAT and malignant cases
- Effectively organizes daily workflow to meet established TAT and productivity standards
- Meet Turn-Around-Time expectations of 90% cases signed out within 24 hours from the moment the cases are ready to the Pathologist for interpretation.
- For any delays in TAT, the Pathologist will notify management and the Medical Director.
- Notifies Medical Director about all delayed cases.
- Bring all case errors to the attention of the Medical Director and Lab Manager to facilitate investigation and proper handling of the correction of errors.
- Accurately follows the addendum, corrected, and amended reports process
- Check all internal ADH communications daily, including gGastro and ADH email.
- Reviews malignant cases, dysplasia cases, and borderline or complex cases with peers on a needed basis. Case(s) should be reviewed within 1-2 days from when the case(s) is provided for review by the original Pathologist.
- Performs monthly QC on the computer in a timely fashion. Cases for QC are distributed weekly and must be completed by the end of the month.
- Communicate with laboratory staff in writing all requests for stains, consults, or any updates/changes that need to be done on a case clearly and concisely.
Certificates & Licenses
Certification in anatomic and clinical pathology or anatomic pathology, by the American Board of Pathology or American Osteopathic Board of Pathology, or possess qualifications equivalent to those required for certification;
