Akicita Federal is hiring Primary Care Physicians to deliver comprehensive, veteran-centered primary care for the Dayton VA Medical Center in Dayton, OH. In this role, you will dedicate the majority of your time to direct patient care — seeing veterans through clinic appointments, phone consultations, and coordinated follow-ups — while making a meaningful difference in the health outcomes of those who served. This is a full-scope clinical position with a small administrative component focused on quality improvement and peer collaboration.
Evaluate patients, diagnose conditions, and deliver evidence-based clinical treatments within the facility's authorized scope of practice.
Order and interpret diagnostic studies including laboratory panels, diagnostic imaging, and electrocardiograms to guide clinical decision-making.
Prescribe and manage patient medications in accordance with VA formulary policies and established guidelines.
Conduct advance care planning discussions with patients, including end-of-life preferences and goals-of-care conversations.
Coordinate referrals and consultations with clinical sub-specialists, and manage transitions of care including discharges and follow-up arrangements.
Perform core clinical procedures such as abscess incision and drainage and fecal occult blood testing.
Complete accurate clinical documentation and select appropriate E&M procedure codes in CPRS/EHR at the close of each patient encounter, and communicate test results to patients in timely compliance with VA notification standards. \n

Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Practice (Family Practice must align with ACC Standards)
Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia
Current curriculum vitae (CV) demonstrating professional qualifications commensurate with primary care practice
Active Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from a VHA-approved provider, or demonstrated equivalency
Valid National Provider Identifier (NPI) with confirmed Taxonomy Code
Current, valid Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) certificate
Technical proficiency in English — ability to speak, understand, read, and write fluently
Compliance with standard infection control requirements including negative TB testing and documented immunity to measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, and acellular pertussis \n What sets candidates apart:

Familiarity with the VA's CPRS/EHR electronic health record system and VA-specific documentation workflows
Experience caring for veteran populations, including familiarity with service-related conditions and polytrauma considerations
Background in social determinants of health screenings and initiating community resource referrals, particularly for housing-insecure patients
Active participation in quality improvement, peer review, or patient safety initiatives within a clinical setting
