The intern will provide trauma-informed mental health services, including individual and family therapy, to youth in the juvenile justice system. Responsibilities include conducting assessments, delivering psychoeducation, and coordinating care with probation officers and schools.
Applicants must be Master's level students in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related clinical field, with second-year students preferred. An interest in child, adolescent, and family mental health is required.
Join WellPower’s Juvenile Justice Program and be part of a team providing trauma-informed, culturally responsive mental health services to youth involved in the juvenile justice system. Our program partners closely with probation and community stakeholders to support youth and families in achieving stability, improving well-being, and reducing recidivism. Services are primarily delivered in homes, clinics, schools, and other community settings. We are seeking a Master’s level intern in Social Work or Counseling who is interested in community-based work with justice involved youth. The intern will have the opportunity to provide individual therapy, family therapy, crisis support, safety planning, psychoeducation, and case management services under close supervision. Compensation & Benefits: This is a NON-PAID student intern opportunity Title and Hours Required: Minimum of 10 hours per week, with 15 to 20 hours preferred, along with a 9-to-12-month commitment aligned with the academic calendar. Preferred Start Date and Schedule: Placement typically begins in late summer or early fall. Schedule is flexible and determined collaboratively, with some evening availability expected to meet family needs. Minimum Qualifications and Openings: Master’s level students in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related clinical field. Second year students preferred. Interest in child, adolescent, and family mental health required. 1 opening Duties of Placement and Miscellaneous Information: This placement offers the opportunity to provide community-based services in a dynamic and multidisciplinary environment. Services are primarily delivered in probation offices, schools, homes, and other community settings. All services are grounded in trauma-informed and culturally responsive care. Following an initial period of orientation, training, and shadowing, the intern will participate in core clinical services within the Juvenile Justice Program. Responsibilities may include: Conducting biopsychosocial assessments and supporting diagnostic formulation under supervision Providing individual and family therapy in community settings Delivering psychoeducation related to mental health and coping skills Supporting youth in building stability and reducing system involvement Engaging in case management and coordination with probation officers, schools, and community partners Participating in multidisciplinary team meetings and case consultations Completing clinical documentation in accordance with WellPower standards The intern will receive at least one hour per week of individual supervision and group supervision as well as access to additional training and professional development opportunities.
