Requires a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) and successful completion of a PGY-1 residency, with a PGY-2 in emergency or critical care preferred. Must hold or obtain a pharmacy license in Virginia and/or West Virginia within 90 days of hire.

The Clinical Staff Pharmacist – Emergency Medicine functions in a hybrid role that integrates operational staffing with advanced clinical and administrative responsibilities within the Emergency Department. This position is part of the interdisciplinary team, supporting rapid, evidence-based medication management in a high-acuity environment. The pharmacist serves as a clinical resource for emergency medicine, ensuring safe, effective, and timely medication use through real-time order verification, therapeutic consultation, and protocol-driven care. Responsibilities include development and optimization of ED-specific policies, order sets, and clinical pathways; promoting formulary compliance; and leading performance improvement initiatives focused on medication safety and patient outcomes. The Clinical Staff Pharmacist actively identifies and resolves medication-related issues, participates in emergency response and critical care decision-making, and documents clinical interventions and cost avoidance in accordance with organizational standards. The role includes ongoing collaboration with physicians, nurses, and leadership to address safety concerns, reduce error-prone processes, and enhance quality of care. Additionally, the pharmacist contributes to medication-use policy development, supports Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) activities, and remains current with emerging therapies and evidence-based practices in emergency medicine. This position also plays a key role in staff education, competency development, and precepting pharmacy learners. Education Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an ACPE-accredited program required.
