- Job Title: Animal Care Technician 2 Department: ERIK | ULAR Administration and Fiscal Position Overview In support of The Ohio State University’s Research and Innovation activities, the selected candidate will work within Enterprise for Research, Innovation and Knowledge (ERIK) supporting the University Laboratory Animal Resources (ULAR) mission of providing humane animal care and facilitating biomedical research discoveries.
- The Animal Care Technician 2 will work in coordination with an area Zone Leader and Team Leaders working as a team member to provide daily care of laboratory animals including feeding, watering, housing, and sanitizing enclosures as required by standard operating procedures for species.
- Other tasks include observing and reporting health conditions and maintaining record systems and inventory of animal via electronic systems; maintaining supplies and sanitation of animal housing and procedure areas; and operating large equipment such as rack washers, tunnel washers, and autoclaves.
- An Animal Care Technician 2 should be able to recognize and solve routine issues that occur without supervision and may serve as a resource for less experienced colleagues.
- Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent certificate One (1) year of work experience providing direct care for animals in a program setting or facility.
- Desired Qualifications Current AALAS registration as Laboratory Animal Technician or certification.
- Two to four years of experience providing direct care for animals in a program setting or facility.
- Experience should be fully documented on the application form.
- The application will be used to evaluate if candidates meet the minimum requirements for the position and for consideration when determining starting pay rate.
Additional Information
Salary The minimum starting rate may be $20.45. The actual offered salary will depend on the selected candidate's qualifications, internal equity, and the unit's available budget. ULAR provides additional opportunities to eligible employees to earn extra income based on performance, completion of certifications, reliable attendance, and shift differential pay for weekend work. Working shared weekends and holiday hours required.
