ROLE We are seeking a Laboratory Technician to support the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) at the New York Medical Product Laboratory (NYMPL) in Jamaica, New York. In this role, you will provide operational and scientific laboratory support to help maintain efficient, compliant, and well-documented FDA field laboratory operations.

I. Scientific Laboratory Support Prepare laboratory media and solutions, including pH adjustments, heating, sterilization, labeling, and QA checks Support preparation of in-house and commercially prepared media used in laboratory operations Autoclave media, containers, laboratory materials, and waste materials Prepare laboratory samples using aseptic and non-aseptic techniques Handle sample materials up to 50 lbs. using blenders, grinders, and various laboratory utensils Perform environmental monitoring, including air and surface monitoring using sterile media and hand-held instruments Record environmental monitoring results in required quality assurance forms and logbooks II. Laboratory Operations Support Clean laboratory glassware, containers, utensils, and other labware using manual and automatic methods Transfer labware between use, sterilization, cleaning, and storage areas as needed Collect and safely dispose of used laboratory materials and waste Maintain cleanliness of assigned laboratory areas Perform acid cleaning of specific laboratory items when required Conduct regular eyewash and safety shower station checks Support temperature mapping by placing sensors, collecting data, and evaluating equipment against established criteria Verify the operation of laboratory equipment, including balances, pipettes, pH meters, and related equipment Perform DI water system checks, including meter readings, light indicator checks, microbial tests, and resistivity tests Record DI water system check results in required logs and laboratory records III. Inventory and Supply Support Assist with tracking, ordering, receiving, and logging laboratory supplies and equipment Use electronic systems to support laboratory supply, equipment, inventory, and documentation activities Retrieve and deliver laboratory supplies as needed IV. Administrative Support Support recordkeeping activities, including time and attendance documentation Scan laboratory records electronically using OCR and ensure image quality and correct sequencing Mail and store hardcopy records in accordance with FDA guidance V. Training & Compliance Support Read and follow applicable SOPs, instrument manuals, reference methodology, and supporting laboratory information Complete required laboratory safety, privacy, records management, and security training
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES Knowledge of laboratory operations, safety practices, and quality assurance procedures Ability to follow SOPs, instrument manuals, reference methods, and laboratory instructions Ability to prepare media, solutions, samples, and laboratory materials using applicable procedures Ability to perform environmental monitoring, equipment checks, DI water checks, and related support tasks Ability to maintain accurate logbooks, QA forms, electronic records, and laboratory documentation Ability to support supply tracking, ordering, receiving, inventory, and equipment logging Ability to safely handle samples, supplies, waste, records, and Government-furnished equipment Ability to protect Government information and comply with FDA security, privacy, and records requirements
TRAINING Training will be provided by OARL laboratory staff may include laboratory safety, security, privacy, records management, SOP review, instrument manual review, applicable reference methodology, supporting laboratory information, and hands-on training with laboratory staff
