Job description

  • When you join the growing BILH team, you're not just taking a job, you’re making a difference in people’s lives.
  • This role is base in our Winchester Center for Cancer care and will support our other BIDMC ambulatory oncology locations.
  • We offer 10 hour days for a 4 day workweek and tier 1 medical center pay.
  • These sites service oncology infusion, medical infusion, and investigational drug services.
  • Initiates and ensures the quality of pharmacy and drug distribution services in all patient care areas.
  • Assumes direct responsibility of direct medication distribution, IV admixtures, safety and efficacy of prescribed drug therapy in accordance with laws and regulations governing pharmacists and the practice of pharmacy by the appropriate state and federal agencies.

Job Description

  • **Qualified candidates are eligible for a sign-on bonus*
  • 1. Practices in accordance with the state and federal laws, rules, and regulations, including but not limited to Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy, Department of Public Health, the Food and Drug Administration, and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Maintains certification and credentials in accordance with the Board of Registration and adheres to institutional policies and procedures. 2. Reviews and verifies medication orders with consideration, including but not limited to the following patient specific parameters: diagnosis, weight/body surface area, age, allergies, organ function, laboratory values, medication duplication, drug interactions. Clarifies orders deemed to be inappropriate, incomplete, or otherwise unclear with the prescriber in a timely manner. 3. Documents and communicates pertinent information and discussion with the healthcare team and pharmacy staff to ensure continuity of care. 4. Provides drug information to physicians, nurses and other health care professionals. 5. Checks and verifies sterile and non-sterile medications. 6. Supervises the activities of students, technicians, and residents within the pharmacist area of practice. 7. Promotes a culture of patient safety by submitting medication related events and near misses. 8. Completes daily pharmacy surveillance tool monitoring, including follow-up and documentation, as well as other daily patient care initiatives and relevant reports. 9. Works collaboratively with all pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and pharmacy personnel. Upholds a culture of respect and teamwork across the Pharmacy Department. 10. Participates in the onboarding and training of new hires and precepts pharmacy students and/or residents through core clinical rotations or learning experiences. 11. Regularly participates in department initiatives including but not limited to supporting formulary stewardship, presenting new medication requests at Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee, creating and maintaining policies and procedures, conducting assessments of workflows, and/or developing departmental tools and resources. 12. Supports departmental workgroups to improve process and quality outcomes. 13. Supports the development and revision of departmental clinical guidelines. 14.
