The role is responsible for scheduling hospital-based surgeries according to physician orders and insurance mandates, ensuring all pre-operative requirements are met and communicating instructions to patients. Additionally, the scheduler must reconcile dropped charges against authorized procedures and maintain accurate documentation within EPIC regarding insurance authorizations.
Candidates must have a minimum of three years of experience in a healthcare setting, with a preference for at least three years specifically in surgical scheduling, ideally within a high-volume practice. A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
JOB SUMMARY Responsible for scheduling hospital-based procedures/surgeries in accordance with physician’s orders and insurance requirements, ensuring all necessary paperwork and required tests needed prior to surgery are accurately completed, and clearly communicated pre- and post-surgery instructions to patients. Ensures reconciliation of all dropped charges to ensure they match authorized procedures and escalate to appropriate parties, if necessary. Responsible for maintaining and managing resources, including insurance portal access, and provides consistent documentation in EPIC to support the obtained insurance authorization. Communicates changes in payer and or federal regulatory guidelines to their manager, pharmacy staff, providers and other clinical departments, as applicable.
