The Direct Support Professional provides active support, supervision, and skill training to individuals with developmental disabilities according to their Plan of Care, covering areas like personal hygiene, medication administration, and community inclusion. This role also involves effective communication with families, assisting with medical appointments, and completing all required daily documentation and assessments.
A high school diploma or GED is required for this position; prior experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred but not mandatory. Candidates must possess a valid Iowa driver's license, provide proof of insurance, and successfully complete medication dispensing training if required for assigned members.
Description Job Summary The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is an active member of a team providing supported living services to individuals with developmental disabilities. The Direct Support Professional works under the direction of the Community Living Coordinator.
A high school diploma or GED is required. Experience working with individuals who have developmental disabilities is preferred, but not required. The successful completion of training to dispense medications to members will be required if the assigned members require staff members to administer their medications. A Direct Support Professional must have a valid Iowa driver’s license, and provide proof of insurance coverage. Direct Support Professional must provide proof of obtaining an Iowa driver’s license within 30 days of employment. Direct Support Professional will provide transportation in Discovery Living owned vehicles and must be insurable through the agency insurance carrier.
