The Certified Anesthesiology Assistant evaluates patients of all ages, obtains necessary histories and physical exams, and establishes routine monitoring under the direction of an anesthesiologist. Responsibilities also include assisting in inducing, maintaining, and altering sedation/anesthesia, administering supportive treatment, and participating in advanced life support techniques.
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree and have successfully completed an anesthesiologist assistant program accredited by CAAHEP or its successor. Required competencies include current state licensure, certification from the NCCAA, excellent communication skills, the ability to make timely critical decisions with minimal supervision, and stamina for long shifts.
