The Scrub Technician assists surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses in the operating room by preparing the room and equipment, passing tools during operations, and helping control equipment like lights and suction. This role also involves ensuring patient safety during transfer and positioning, participating in time-outs, and initiating emergency procedures when necessary.
Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and be a graduate of an accredited surgical technician program, with CPR certification required. Previous Operating Room experience is preferred, along with strong clinical skills, communication abilities, and the capacity to handle physical demands involving lifting up to 100 pounds.
The Scrub Technician provides assistance in the operating room. These individuals work under the supervision of surgeons, anesthesiologist and nurses. Prepare the operating/procedure room and surgical equipment. Demonstrates collaborative interdepartmental planning in identifying and meeting patient-family centered needs and awareness of the nursing care plan. Communicates with patient and practitioner through pre-operative planning. Provides care appropriate in a non-judgmental, nondiscriminatory manner that is sensitive to the needs of all ages, preserving their autonomy, dignity and rights. Identify age requirements (infant to geriatric) using clinical data and patient needs. Passes tools to surgeons during an operation and helps control equipment such as lights, bovie or suction. Assist with safe transfer of the patient to the operating room table. Assists in positioning patient safely for the procedure to prevent injury or harm. Participates in the physician-led time-out. Initiates appropriate emergency procedures in collaboration with the physician; including BLS. Ensures patients rights are respected and protects patient privacy by adhering to HIPPA guidelines in the management of all patient information. Evaluates and assesses interventions and participates in the briefing/debriefing process. Practices positive responses to job demands and changes through organization and time management. Facilitates safe and effective follow-up care through verbal hand off communication. Attends various unit, division or committee meetings as designated by the manager or clinical charge nurse. Assures equipment and supplies are readily available for patient care, reporting malfunctions to proper department. Utilizes resources effectively and efficiently to enhance positive outcomes in patient care, addresses unit needs and supports the Centers mission. Participates in and fosters an approach to continuously improving quality through Six Sigma methodology that includes both intradepartmental and interdepartmental activities. Ensures patient rights are respected and protects patient privacy by adhering to HIPPA guidelines in the management of all patient information. The candidate will successfully complete yearly competencies to secure and maintain the position. Employee will implement, evaluate and revise annual self-development goals as outlined on previous Performance Appraisal. QualificationsJob Qualifications Education: High school graduate or equivalent. Graduate of a surgical technician accredited program required. Attends in-services to maintain professional standards. Licensure & Certifications: CPR certification or equivalent. Certification (CST) preferred.
