We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Emergency Veterinary Assistant (VA) to join our Emergency and Critical Care team. This position is ideal for an experienced veterinary assistant who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is eager to contribute to high-quality, life-saving patient care.
Support veterinarians in delivering high-quality veterinary care, advocating for pets, and educating clients. Assist with all aspects of patient care to maximize team productivity and maintain a steady, organized patient flow. Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients about individualized treatment plans and pet health concerns. Obtain thorough patient histories and enter accurate information into medical records and practice software systems. Perform patient triage to assess stability and prioritize care appropriately. Use safe and effective handling and restraint techniques during examinations and procedures. Prepare and maintain clean, sterile, and well-organized exam rooms, treatment areas, and labs. Place IV catheters and perform venipuncture, injections (IV, IM, SQ), and collect diagnostic samples as needed. Monitor patients under anesthesia using a variety of monitoring equipment and techniques. Assist in emergency procedures and provide nursing support throughout hospitalization. Foster a collaborative team environment by mentoring, guiding, and supporting fellow team members. Qualifications & Skills Proficient in triage and patient assessment in an emergency setting Skilled in placing IV catheters, drawing blood, and administering injections (IV, IM, SQ) Experienced or strong desire to gain experience in anesthesia monitoring and use of monitoring equipment Positive, adaptable team player who thrives in a dynamic, high-pressure environment Self-motivated, eager to learn, and receptive to feedback Excellent verbal and written communication skills Strong multitasking and time management abilities
