The technologist operates x-ray equipment to create radiographs as ordered by physicians, which includes positioning and instructing patients, adjusting equipment settings, and determining proper exposure factors. Essential functions also involve performing screening procedures, explaining exams to patients, preparing rooms and equipment, monitoring patient safety during exams, producing diagnostic images, and documenting exam information.
Candidates are required to hold American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT-R) certification, state Radiologic Tech (RT) licensure (if applicable), and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. An Associate's Degree in radiologic technology is preferred, and a Fluoroscopy license is required in the state of employment (CA within 6 months of hire).
