Direct Care Staff establish life-changing relationships by providing daily direct services to clients in a community group home, supporting activities of daily living, and monitoring self-administered medication. Responsibilities also include advocating for individuals and providing informal counseling with a person-centered focus to optimize independence, rehabilitation, and recovery.
Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or GED, a valid driver's license with an approved driving record, and reliable transportation, and must pass a background screening process. Experience working with psychiatric disorders or co-occurring populations is preferred, as are current First Aid, CPR, and MAP certifications.
The Center for Human Development, (CHD) is seeking Direct Care Staff to join our team at the Odyssey residential program in the Hartford, CT. Our direct care staff establish life-changing relationships with our participants and provide opportunities to optimize their independence, rehabilitation and recovery.
Odyssey House is a structured young adult residential program designed to support young adults as they build the essential life skills needed for successful community living. The program emphasizes program participants development, focusing not only on practical skills but also on community integration, personal empowerment, and responsibility. Through individualized planning, structured routines, and collaborative support, Odyssey prepares individuals to transition confidently into the community with greater autonomy, resilience, and overall well-being. Many of the individuals served in Odyssey experience co-occurring mental health needs, which may include mood disorders, anxiety, trauma-related conditions, or other behavioral health challenges.
Those having a passion for helping others with kind and a positive approach make for an ideal candidate for the Direct Care role. Additionally, having strong interpersonal skills, empathy for others, and demonstrated commitment to serving those with significant needs, ability to work well within a team model and independently. You will also need to bring good written and verbal skills, and a strong level of compassion to meet the needs of the individuals served.
