Interns will be placed within the operational divisions or the Director’s Office of the Department of Health, Human, and Veterans Services (HHVS) to support departmental priorities under the guidance of experienced public service professionals. The role is part of a summer fellowship designed to cultivate future public health leaders and strengthen the public health workforce pipeline.

All levels require familiarity or interest in public health, healthcare, or related fields, strong communication skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
The Department of Health, Human, and Veterans Services (HHVS), housed within the County Executive Office, is comprised of the Director’s Office and six operational divisions: Public Health, Clinical Care Services, Access to Care (Health Choice), Medical Examiner’s Office, Transition Services, and Veterans Services. The mission of HHVS is to promote health and well-being for all Wayne County residents through programs, policies, and partnerships that address gaps in access and opportunity across the lifespan.

Supervision or Guidance Received
Interns will be supervised by a preceptor, who may be the Division Director, Department Officer, or designee.
