The Cardiac Ultrasound Technologist performs echocardiograms following established procedures, providing preliminary diagnostic evaluations and notifying cardiologists of results. This role involves tailoring examinations using adaptive approaches, identifying pathologies affecting study quality, and performing various ultrasonic imaging examinations on pediatric and adult populations.
Candidates must have an Associate's degree in a relevant field and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience. Essential abilities include analyzing and prioritizing work under pressure, handling confidential information discreetly, and demonstrating flexibility across various clinical environments.

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Pediatrics has an exciting opportunity for a per diem Cardiac Ultrasound Technologist to work in Miami, FL. The Cardiac Ultrasound Technologist performs echocardiograms in accordance with established practices and procedures. Provides preliminary diagnostic evaluation and notifies cardiologists of results of examinations. Consults with cardiologist to establish requirements for non-standard examinations and determines technical factors to satisfy requirements. CORE JOB FUNCTIONS Tailors each examination utilizing innovative and adaptive approaches to optimize results of a particular condition being evaluated. Identifies other pathologies/conditions that affect the study results and modifies such factors in order to obtain highest quality and accurate results. Provides patient a full explanation of procedures in layman terms in order to allay fears and promote maximum cooperation. Sets up needed equipment for procedure. Maintains sterile equipment and prepares patient areas. Performs ultrasonic imaging examinations according to Department procedures. Locates and records internal elements of the body, including blood vessels and organs, and identifies any anomalies indicative of disease, injury, or other medically significant conditions. Recognizes equipment malfunctions and readjusts equipment or refers for repair. Trains and cross-trains other clinical staff as required. Demonstrate flexibility performing tests/scans in a variety of clinical environments. Recognizes and records cardiac pathology in order for the physician to render a diagnosis. Follows safety and infection control standards. Completes all required paperwork, and performs computer functions, such as entering reports, recording completed procedures, logging studies, and ordering procedures. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets. Department Specific Functions Perform and process M-Mode, 2-dimensional, color flow, and Doppler echocardiograms using techniques appropriate to the pediatric and adult population Perform and process 2-dimensional, color flow, and Doppler vascular imaging using techniques appropriate to the pediatric and adult population Define and document testing abnormalities Report abnormalities upon completion of exam to physicians Upload scans to ISCV system, merge scans with orders, and edit images for physician review Perform EKG procedures on patients Place or order Holter and event monitors for patients Attend division meetings and in service trainings to stay current with the advancements in the field as well as changes with sciences and technologies Verify the safety and performance of equipment to be used for patient testing and verify preventative maintenance status prior to use This list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities as necessary. CORE QUALIFICATIONS Associate’s degree in relevant field. Minimum 1 years of relevant experience. Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines. Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion. Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary. Ability to interact professionally and develop effective relationships. Ability to make knowledgeable clinical assessments and judgments. Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail. Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment. Proficiency in computer software (i.e., Microsoft Office). Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.
