The Medical Lab Technician performs high, moderate, or waived complexity laboratory testing using advanced instrumentation according to standard operating procedures to generate results for disease diagnosis and treatment. This role involves independently confirming, verifying, and reporting results, monitoring quality control, and performing required maintenance and troubleshooting.
Candidates must possess an Associate’s Degree as a medical laboratory technician or a Specialized Diploma meeting CLIA grandfathered MLT regulations, along with less than one year of experience and a clinical laboratory internship. Required abilities include demonstrated technical skills, basic English comprehension, computer literacy, and the capacity to apply mathematical concepts and interpret technical instructions.
Associate’s Degree as a medical laboratory technician or Specialized Diploma must meet CLIA grandfathered MLT regulations. Less than 1 year of experience and a clinical laboratory internship. Demonstrated technical skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific documents. Ability to read, understand, and speak basic English. Demonstrated ability to use/learn the computer system, word processing, e-mail, and applicable software programs. Demonstrated dependability/flexibility in meeting scheduling needs of the department, unit, and hospital. Ability to apply common mathematical skills. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
MLT - Medical Laboratory Technician ASCP - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire Physical Demands Lift and carry 40-50 lbs.
Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
