The Phlebotomist/EKG Technician is responsible for providing direct and indirect inpatient and outpatient care, which includes performing phlebotomy, ECG testing, and transporting patients. Key duties involve verifying patient identification using two identifiers, correctly labeling specimens, and safely drawing blood according to hospital procedures.
A High School Diploma or equivalent is required for this position, along with at least one year of experience in Cardiovascular or Phlebotomy. A Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is mandatory within 30 days of hire, and EEG experience is preferred.
The Phlebotom /EKG Technician provides direct and indirect inpatient and outpatient care services including phlebotomy, ECG testing and transportation of patients.
Name, DOB or Medical Record Number. Never identifies patient by room number. Labels all specimens in front of patient with required information, EMR ID, date and time of collection. Blood is drawn according to established hospital procedures in a safe manner with minimum trauma to the patient. Monitors for adverse effects of blood draws. Compliant with all safety standards and utilizes Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Understands and applies knowledge of test specimen requirements and utilizes available reference materials to ensure that all specimens are collected correctly. Resolves unusual test orders by contacting the appropriate healthcare provider and notifying fellow staff and/or management of unresolved orders Maintains annual required competency training and provides necessary support to maintain proper equipment function. Understands and applies knowledge of test specimen and policy requirements and utilizes available reference materials to ensure that all specimens and exams are collected correctly. Resolves unusual test orders by contacting the appropriate healthcare provider and notifying fellow staff and/or management of unresolved orders. Adheres to the proper procedure for obtaining, charging for, and returning supplies/equipment and maintains adequate supply levels through the use of accurate inventory control. Provides efficient transportation for patients both to and from requesting service areas. Utilizes selected healthcare IT applications proficiently as assigned by management. Performs other duties as assigned by management within job scope.
Education/Training High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Experience 1-year Cardiovascular or Phlebotomy Preferences: EEG experience preferred Certificates/Licenses/Registration Certificates/Licenses/Registration
Post-Employment: BLS, provided by the American Heart Association (AHA), required within 30 days of hire.
