The General Dentist is responsible for providing comprehensive dental care to eligible veterans, which includes performing examinations, diagnoses, and various preventative and therapeutic dental treatments. This role requires collaboration with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care across multiple clinic locations.
Candidates must possess a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree along with a current active dental license in any U.S. state or territory and current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Applicants must also be able to meet VA credentialing and privileging requirements and demonstrate experience providing comprehensive dental care.
The General Dentist provides comprehensive dental care to eligible veterans at VA outpatient dental clinics. The provider performs examinations, diagnoses, preventative and therapeutic dental treatments, and collaborates with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure high-quality patient care. Key Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive dental exams and consultations Diagnose and treat diseases and conditions of the oral cavity and maxillofacial structures Perform restorative dental procedures including treatment of caries and defective restorations Provide prosthetic replacement of missing dentition (fixed and removable) Perform implant restoration and implant-retained dentures Perform non-surgical endodontic therapy Perform simple and surgical tooth extractions Provide emergency dental treatment Perform gingivectomy and gingivoplasty procedures Treat temporomandibular disorders (TMD) non-surgically Conduct minor oral surgery procedures and biopsies Provide oral pathology and oral medicine services Provide sedation/anxiolysis (oral single agent) when appropriate Dentists must follow all VA clinical guidelines and documentation standards. Required Qualifications Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) Current active dental license in any U.S. state or territory Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Ability to meet VA credentialing and privileging requirements Experience providing comprehensive dental care
Experience in government or VA healthcare settings Experience with implants, oral surgery, or prosthodontics Experience working in multidisciplinary healthcare teams
