The Diagnostic Radiology Nurse Practitioner provides advanced nursing care in collaboration with radiologists, focusing on pre-procedural evaluation, procedural support like managing contrast reactions, and post-procedural follow-up for various diagnostic imaging studies. Responsibilities include performing comprehensive health assessments, managing sedation protocols, and educating patients and families regarding procedures and expected outcomes.
Candidates must possess a Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program and hold current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner, along with a DEA permit in the state of practice. Prior experience in radiology, acute care, or procedural settings is preferred, and national board certification as an AGACNP-BC or ACNPC-AG is required.
Perform comprehensive health assessments of patients referred to diagnostic radiology services. Obtain relevant patient histories and physical exams in preparation for imaging procedures (e.g., CT, MRI, fluoroscopy, angiography). Review laboratory data and imaging studies to ensure patient safety prior to procedures involving contrast, sedation, or interventional techniques. Provide pre- and post-procedural care, including managing moderate sedation protocols and monitoring for contrast-related adverse events. Educate patients and families regarding imaging procedures, expected outcomes, and post-procedural instructions. Respond to contrast reactions or complications during imaging, in collaboration with radiology staff and emergency teams. Document all patient interactions, evaluations, and follow-up care in the electronic medical record (EMR). Participate in quality improvement initiatives and interdisciplinary team meetings related to radiology services. Collaborate with radiologists, technologists, nurses, and referring providers to optimize patient care. Qualifications Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. If APRN was licensed prior to August 1, 1995, master's degree in nursing is preferred. Prior experience in radiology, acute care, or procedural settings preferred Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in each state of practice. Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances in each state of practice. State Controlled Substance License (if required by State) National board certification as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP-BC) or ACNPC-AG), Acute Care Adult (ACNP-BC). Additional certifications require approval from a market executive leader: Family (FNP-BC) or (FNP–C), Adult-Gerontology Primary Care (AGPCNP-BC) or (A-GNP) Obtains and subsequently maintains required specific competencies and certifications as outlined on privilege form.
