The Licensed Practical Nurse provides direct and indirect patient care services, ensuring that the psychosocial, physical, and general aspects of care are met. They communicate with physicians and team members about changes in patient conditions and perform general nursing duties under the supervision of a registered nurse.
Candidates must be graduates of an accredited LPN program with current licensure in Idaho and BLS certification. Additional training in IV push medication, ACLS, and PALS is required within six months of hire.

Float Pool License Practical Nurse Demonstrates ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy. This includes pediatric, geriatric and the general patient population. Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management. Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age. Demonstrates knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and patient’s clinical condition, to include IV medications as specified by the facility. Successful completion of IV push medication training from an IFCH approved course must be completed within 6 months of hire date. Follows the five medication right and reduces the potential for medication errors. Utilize barcode scanning system to ensure patient safety. Demonstrates ability to adjust care as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness. Ability to perform waived testing (point of care testing) per clinical laboratories and the patient care unit’s policies and procedures. Ability to interpret results of waived test; take appropriate action on waived tests results. Formulates a teaching plan bases on identified patient learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning family is included in teaching as appropriate. Demonstrates an ability to assist physician with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills under the direction of an RN. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families. Current LPN licensure in the state of Idaho. Current BLS certification and renewal as required. Successful completion of IV push medication training from an IFCH approved course must be completed within 6 months of hire. Successful completion of ACLS and PALS courses are required within 6 months of hire. Completion of the basic dysrhythmia class is also recommended but not required.
