The primary responsibility involves reviewing patient records to accurately assign diagnosis and procedure codes according to established conventions and guidelines for billing and reimbursement. This role also includes auditing medical records for compliance, identifying productivity trends, reporting adverse events, and providing coding feedback and education.
Candidates must possess a required certification such as CCS, CPC, ROCC, or RHIA/RHIT, and ideally have two years of coding experience, although only a high school education or GED is preferred. The role requires substantial knowledge to handle complex coding activities and interpret policies while maintaining confidentiality.

Reviews patient records to identify the diagnosis and procedure codes performed during the patients stay are valid and in accordance with coding conventions and guidelines. Applies substantial knowledge of the job and experience to complete a wide range of activities with varying difficulty. Regularly works with sensitive and confidential information, often involving the interpretation of policies and procedures to guide use.
