Occupational Therapists function as essential partners with various healthcare providers to enhance patients’ functional recovery and self-actualization within an academic medical center environment. They provide consultative services, make recommendations, and elevate patient care through quality initiatives and evidence-based practice.
Candidates must possess a Master’s or Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy and have required experience working in a hospital setting. Applicants must also secure a DC License before employment begins and maintain current Basic Life Support certification.
The George Washington University Hospital’s Medical-Surgical Rehabilitation Department is seeking an Occupational Therapist to join our rehab team on a per diem basis to support the therapy needs of our hospitalized patients. GW Hospital is a 385 bed Level 1 Trauma Center, Academic Medical Center, and Comprehensive Stroke Center located in the heart of Washington, DC. GW offers clinical expertise and world-class care in a variety of areas including cardiac, cancer, neuroscience, critical care, trauma, women’s health, organ and tissue transplant, and advanced surgical techniques. Our rehab therapists work at the top of their license alongside other healthcare professionals to enhance patients’ functional recovery and self-actualization, provide consultative services, make recommendations, and elevate patient care through unit and system-based quality initiatives, evidence-based research and practice, and true interdisciplinary care.
Perform detailed assessments of adult patients’ activities of daily living, neurological, musculoskeletal, sensory, cognitive, and functional needs in the acute hospital setting. Create and implement individualized therapy plans that support patients’ functional recovery and transition of care planning. Work in close coordination with nurses, physicians, rehab staff, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care for patients. Offer guidance and education to patients and caregivers This position is per diem and has a two-weekend shift/month requirement. Additional weekdays may be available
