The Patient Care Assistant is responsible for assisting patients under the direction of an RN or LPN, which includes performing vital signs and assisting with total patient care and daily living activities. They must adhere to professional ethics, maintain confidentiality, and properly utilize PPE and infection control practices.
Candidates need a high school diploma or equivalent, proficiency in nursing assistant care, and the ability to follow directions under supervision. Desirable characteristics include at least one year of experience as a Nursing Assistant, and CPR certification is required.
Overview The Patient Care Assistant shall be responsible for assisting in the care of patients under the direction of an RN and LPN.
Observe professional ethics in maintaining confidential information acquired regarding personal, financial, medical or employment of patients, families and employees of DRMC. Demonstrate the ability to do Vital signs and document, assist with total patient care, assists with activities of daily living, able to use PPE properly, able to carry out infection control practices, and has the ability to use proper lifting techniques with proper body mechanics without causing injury to patient, self, or others. Communicates with the RN or LPN on all aspects of patient care. Must follow and enforce accepted safety practices for patients and DRMC. Must report hazards and initiate appropriate action. Must participate in safety instructional programs. Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Ability to read and write and exhibit proficiency in nursing assistant care and oral communication skills.
