The phlebotomist is primarily responsible for obtaining blood specimens from patients, requiring proficiency in both venipuncture and capillary puncture techniques. This role also involves following laboratory policies for patient identification and specimen handling, providing care across all age groups from neonates to geriatrics, and being willing to cross-train and float to other departments.
Candidates must possess a high school diploma and technical school education, with an Associate of Applied Science or AS degree preferred, and are required to have 1-3 years of phlebotomy experience. A Phlebotomy Certification is mandatory within six months of hire, and the role includes specific duties related to recognizing and responding to stroke alerts.
