The Polysomnographic Technician performs comprehensive Polysomnographic testing and analysis, along with associated interventions, under the general oversight of a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist or medical director. This technical role requires independent functioning with limited supervision, applying advanced expertise in sleep disorders and sound clinical judgment for unusual patient events.
Candidates must be boarded by the BRPT and have successfully completed an accredited educational program leading to an associate degree in polysomnography, or an equivalent program of at least one year, or an A-STEP accredited certificate program. A minimum of one year of polysomnographic technology experience is preferred, and CPR certification is required.
The Polysomnographic Technician is responsible for performing comprehensive Polysomnographic testing and analysis, and associated interventions under the general oversight of a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) and/or the medical director (M.D., D.O., or PhD) or designee. A Polysomnographic Technician can provide oversight of a Polysomnographic Trainee. This is a technical position functioning independently with limited supervision. Work situations require extensive knowledge and the application of advanced expertise in the field of sleep disorders, and sound clinical judgments, actions, and decision making regarding unusual patient behavior, i.e. seizure activity, life threatening cardiac and respiratory abnormalities. Internal contacts are basically within the work group but may include patient care staff and management throughout the Medical Center. This position has external contacts with physicians as well as extensive direct patient care and patient contact on a daily basis. Documented proficiency in core competencies Arrival preparation and electrode/sensor application Capnography Maintenance, cleaning and safety precautions Monitoring Pulse Oximetry PAP titration Polysomnographic montages and equipment calibration and function Supplemental low flow oxygen titration Requirements Boarded by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) Successful completion of an accredited (CAAHEP preferred) educational program leading to an associate degree with emphasis in polysomnography OR successful completion of a polysomnography program of no less than one year duration associated with a state licensed and/or nationally accredited (CAAHEP preferred) educational facility OR successful completion of an American Academy of Sleep Medicine A-STEP accredited educational program leading to a certificate in polysomnography OR minimum six months work experience as a Polysomnographic Trainee Minimum one (1) year polysomnographic technology experience (preferred) CPR required Why MultiCare Neuroscience Institute? Pay and Benefit Expectations We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, medical, dental and retirement benefits and paid time off. As required by various pay transparency laws, we share a competitive range of compensation for candidates hired into each position. The pay scale is $37.76 - $60.11 USD. However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education. If this position is associated with a union contract, pay will be reflective of the appropriate step on the pay scale to which the applicant’s years of experience align.
