This role involves the analysis of biological specimens, requiring comprehensive knowledge of specimen collection, organizing daily workload, performing quality control, and appraising results to distinguish normal and abnormal values. Responsibilities also include preparing reagents, performing preventative maintenance on instruments, troubleshooting methodologies, and teaching new technologists.
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science/Technology or a related science field, along with active national MLS certification (ASCP preferred) within 12 months of hire. Required skills include strong organizational abilities, written and interpersonal communication, basic knowledge of laboratory instruments for troubleshooting, and proficiency with personal computers for data input.
Certifications and Licensures
MT: Medical Technologist ASCP
Must hold and maintain an active, national MLS certification within 12 months of hire. It is preferred the first attempt occurs within 3 months of hire. Non-ASCP employees must actively pursue an acceptable route to ASCP Certification and will be provided an appropriate amount of time to become certified. The amount of time offered is directed by the ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) route options and will vary by employee.
A Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science/Technology or a Bachelor's degree in a science or health related field with national MLS certification may also be considered.
