The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant is responsible for overseeing the progress of a specific caseload of acute, in-hospital cardiology patients, ensuring quality outcomes within a cost-effective timeframe. This role involves acting as an educator, consultant, and liaison while providing direct care and coordinating care across the continuum in partnership with the healthcare team.
Candidates must be licensed as an RN or PA in Rhode Island, holding at least a Master of Science in Nursing (for NPs) or graduating from an accredited PA program, along with specialty certification and prescriptive privileges where applicable. Required experience includes two years as an RN in acute care (preferred 1-2 years as NP) or 1-2 years as a PA, with cardiology experience preferred, and current BLS/ACLS certification.
Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.Baccalaureate in nursing, or equivalent. At least a Master of Science Degree in the field of nursing. Graduate of accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Specialty certification required.Current registration as a Nurse Practitioner with prescriptive privileges in the State of Rhode Island.OR Bachelor’s Degree and two years of graduate study in an accredited Physician Assistant program.Current registration as Physician Assistant in the State of Rhode Island.Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS), and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.EXPERIENCE:Two years related experience as RN in acute care hospital setting and preferred 1-2 years experience as a nurse practitioner. OR1-2 years experience as a Physician Assistant. Experience in cardiology preferred. Experience with EPIC a plus.WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:General hospital environment with occasional stressful conditions associated with patient care. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.
