The employee is responsible for executing all laboratory procedures, which includes quality control, specimen handling, testing, and reporting results. They will also assist in evaluating new techniques and training other personnel on equipment and software as needed.
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant science field or equivalent education, along with required Technologist/Scientist Certification from ASCP or AMT. Preferred experience includes one year as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, and new graduates have 18 months post-hire to obtain certification.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical, or biological science or equivalent. Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Medical Laboratory Science program OR Bachelor’s Degree to include 35 SHs comprised of Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Math AND 1-year fulltime experience in Blood Bank, Microbiology, Chemistry, and Hematology OR Bachelor’s Degree to include 30 SHs Biology and Chemistry AND 1-year fulltime experience in categorical exam area.
1 year of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist preferred. (Clinical internships of 12 months duration meet this requirement). Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.
