The General Surgeon will provide comprehensive surgical care, including evaluation, operative management for elective and emergency procedures, and postoperative follow-up for patients. Key duties involve coordinating care with various specialists, maintaining accurate documentation, and participating in call coverage as assigned.
Candidates must possess an MD or DO from an accredited school and have completed an ACGME/AOA-accredited General Surgery residency, achieving Board Certification or Eligibility. A current, unrestricted medical license, DEA registration eligibility, and BLS/ACLS certification are mandatory requirements.
Provides comprehensive surgical care for patients requiring general surgery evaluation, operative management, and postoperative follow-up. The General Surgeon performs elective and emergency procedures, participates in call coverage, collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, and supports quality, safety, and patient experience initiatives. Key Responsibilities Evaluate patients in outpatient, inpatient, and emergency settings; develop evidence-based surgical treatment plans. Perform a broad range of general surgery procedures (e.g., abdominal, gastrointestinal, soft tissue, hernia, gallbladder, appendectomy, and related procedures) consistent with training and privileges. Provide perioperative care including pre-op assessment, informed consent, operative documentation, postoperative management, and discharge planning. Participate in call coverage and respond to emergent/urgent consults as assigned. Coordinate care with anesthesia, nursing, hospitalists, intensivists, radiology, pathology, gastroenterology, oncology, and other specialists. Maintain timely, accurate documentation in the electronic medical record and comply with coding, billing, and regulatory requirements. Promote patient safety and quality by following clinical protocols, participating in morbidity and mortality review as applicable, and supporting performance improvement initiatives. Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding diagnoses, risks/benefits, alternatives, and expected recovery. Provide clinical supervision and teaching of learners and advanced practice providers as applicable (academic/community setting dependent). Adhere to organizational policies, professionalism standards, and confidentiality requirements (HIPAA).
MD or DO from an accredited medical school. Completion of an ACGME/AOA-accredited General Surgery residency. Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery (American Board of Surgery or equivalent). Current, unrestricted medical license (state-specific) or eligibility to obtain licensure prior to start. DEA registration (or eligibility) and ability to obtain hospital privileges. BLS/ACLS certification as required by facility policy. Demonstrated commitment to patient-centered care, safety, and teamwork.
Fellowship training in a relevant subspecialty (e.g., minimally invasive surgery, colorectal, surgical oncology, breast, hepatobiliary) as aligned to departmental needs. Experience in an academic medical center or high-acuity community hospital environment. Participation in quality improvement, research, or teaching activities. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary environment
