The Anesthesia Technician ensures the quality of service and monitoring for patients undergoing anesthesia by maintaining, setting up, testing, and troubleshooting all necessary equipment across various anesthetizing locations. This role involves direct technical assistance to Anesthesia staff during procedures, including complex setups for hemodynamic monitoring and airway management support.
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent education and experience, along with six months to one year of Anesthesia Technologist experience. While no specific licenses or registrations are required initially, the role demands the ability to learn and maintain all required skill sets with yearly competency validation.

Under general supervision of the Anesthesia Provider, Anesthesia Technologist Manager or a designee and following established procedures, the Anesthesia Technician 2 assures the quality of service and monitoring for patients undergoing anesthesia in all anesthetizing locations throughout the hospital. Maintains, services, sets up, tests, and troubleshoots equipment and provides technical assistance to the Anesthesia staff in the care of patients. Learns supervisory responsibility for the department daily by observing the Anesthesia Tech Manager or designee. Required maintenance of all skill sets with yearly validation of competencies by the Manager or Clinical Educator, the Anesthesia Technician 2 will perform all duties and obligations associated with call and meet all of the departmental and hospital policy requirements. The colleague will remain in good standing in all areas of expectation as described below including standards of behavior and educational requirements. This will encompass all organizational standards required by LHMC. Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to: Sets-up an anesthetizing location with required equipment and supplies according to the type of cases and ages of the patients. Consults with Anesthesiologist or CRNA for specific setup needs as necessary or requested. Locations include but not limited to Operating Rooms (21 rooms) , Interventional Radiology Suites, Neurointerventional Radiology Suites, CTI, Litho, EP Labs, Cath labs, MRI, and Endoscopy (5rms) , Pulmonary, PET Scan , CT Scan and Radiation Oncology. Some areas require additional equipment and setup with an EPIC connection as they are not equipped as a full-time anesthetizing location. Sets up equipment for use in the work area such as, but not limited to, connecting input and output hoses, bronchoscopes, and assembling breathing circuits. Delivers required anesthesia equipment as needed. Sets up IV solutions, transducers, medical pump tubing and all required equipment, for cardiac monitoring. Performs leak testing, calibration replaces 02 sensors and flow sensors of anesthesia machines. Provides troubleshooting and service corrections. Changes tanks on machines and C02 absorbent canisters as needed. Cleans anesthesia machines and other anesthesia equipment after each case to meet operating room target times. Prepares blood pressure transducers. Calibrates them to the appropriate machine. Sets up IV solutions and IV infusions. Demonstrates proficiency with functionality of various hemodynamic monitoring systems. Performs Cardiac output injectate process and reports numeric to the provider. Enters all patient data for calculations. Follows calibration sequence for SVO2 catheters.. Demonstrates proper set up of non-invasive cardiac output monitoring systems entering all data and aseptically assembling kit. Assists the Anesthesia staff in the set up and initialization of hemodynamic monitoring equipment including arterial lines, central venous catheters, PA catheters, TEE. Assists anesthesia providers with arterial line and central line placement. Comfortable and knowledgeable about each kit available at LHMC. Based on case type and provider directives, follows proper patient sterile prep procedures, open kits using sterile technique. Calibrates equipment such as Arterial, Central line and PA transducers ensures correct labeling and monitor profiles. Demonstrates ability to aseptically connect pulmonary artery catheter and assist with placement of the PAC. Set up and prepare TEE machine for patient use. Assists Anesthesiologists in care of patients before, during, and immediately after anesthesia which involves the following: transfer of patients from stretchers to operating table; attachment of vital signs monitoring equipment; position and hold patients for procedures, i.e spinal, epidurals; assist in endotracheal intubations by preparing and holding equipment. Assists Anesthesiologists and CRNAs with airway management, including set up of fiberoptic scope, LMA, single and double lumen tubes, jet ventilation system, atomizer and topical solutions for awake intubation. May assist with cricoid pressure during rapid sequence induction. Assists with transport monitoring of critically ill patients to intensive care units. Tests, sets up, maintain sterile technique and process autologous blood products for reinfusion. Package, label and report to the Anesthesiologist the volume, estimated blood loss (EBL) and returned processed unit volume. Sets up and primes rapid infuser systems and maintains aseptic technique. Following established protocols and using proper sterile technique, in cardiac and hepatic cases draws blood from lines for labs for laboratory analysis. Sets up and prepares Anesthesia machines for malignant hyperthermia cases, installs appropriate filters, replaces absorbent, removes vaporizers, runs ventilator at appropriate settings for recommended period of time. Conducts performance tests, performs calibration and first level repairs (i.e. battery changes, cable swapping, monitor checks) of anesthesia equipment. Troubleshoots routine problems with equipment in OR during use, repairing or replacing as necessary. Maintains yearly competency with High Level Disinfection processes. Proficiently follows all regulations as established by the HLD committee and regulatory agencies. This process applies to processing of Trans Esophageal Echo probes. Can speak to all components of this process and all quality control aspects. Participates fully in call rotation to provide technical support for anesthesia services after hours and on weekends/holidays.
