The role involves performing routine mammography and radiographic procedures independently, adhering to departmental standards and regulatory guidelines. Additionally, the technologist assists Radiologists with interventional procedures such as needle localizations and various types of breast biopsies.
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED, pass the ARRT National Board, and hold a State of CT License to practice Radiographic technical procedures. Advanced certification in Mammography from ARRT is expected within one year of hire, along with current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.

Under the direction of a Workflow Coordinator, Manager/Supervisor and/or Team Lead, performs or assists in Radiographic and/or mammography procedures at a level that does not require direct supervision over technical detail. Performs and assists in a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, good knowledge of anatomy, positioning, and a thorough technical knowledge of equipment. Assumes responsibility for a designated area or procedure as may be required. COMPETENCIES: · Must be fully knowledgeable and capable of performing independently in mammography. · Must have complete working knowledge of the principles of physics, anatomy, medical terminology, sterile technique and radiation protection as it relates to Radiology practice. · Must meet age specific knowledge/skill requirement and annually complete HHC's mandatory education. · Strong written and verbal communication with co-workers and patients using the English language to communicate appropriately and clearly to team leader, co-workers and other members of the health care team. Bilingual English/Spanish is desirable. · Must be able to utilize advanced math skills in physics in order to understand and set the appropriate level of radiologic exposure to the patient and themselves for the process. · Works cooperatively to accomplish a task as a member of a team. · Exhibits constant awareness of infection control standards. · Proficient in the use of Microsoft Windows-based WORD, EXCEL and OUTLOOK software programs ensuring accuracy in documentation. Assists Radiologists on interventional procedures including but not limited to needle localizations, stereotactic biopsies, and breast biopsies. 3. Proficiently conducts routine mammography. 4. Mentors students in the clinical and ethical aspects of the Radiologic Technologist profession. 5. Maintains stock levels and personal protective equipment of assigned stations.
