The technologist performs diagnostic Breast MRI scanning procedures to produce high-quality examinations while providing excellent patient care and ensuring MRI safety and proper contrast dosing. Essential duties include operating Breast MRI equipment, completing required paperwork, performing intravenous injections of GBCA agents, and directly assisting radiologists in MRI guided biopsy procedures.
Candidates must possess an Associate Degree in Radiologic Technology and hold ARRT certification, with 1-3 years of experience in Radiology or MRI, and breast imaging experience is preferred. Required knowledge includes departmental protocols, operating MRI scanners, computer literacy, adherence to regulations, and strong communication skills, including the ability to lift up to 50lbs.
Performs diagnostic Breast MRI scanning procedures to produce consistently high-quality examinations in accordance with all applicable standards, regulations and licensing requirements. Provides excellent patient care for all Breast MRI scan procedures. Quickly and accurately completes all paperwork to include orders, lab work and authorization confirmation. Consistently monitors and ensures the safety of patients as it relates to MRI safety and contrast dosing. Examines orders and verifies the patient request for accuracy. Addresses any questionable orders with the Radiologist before performing the procedure(s). Operates Breast MRI equipment to make quality images of designated portions of the body under the direct order of a physician and in accordance with Breast MRI safety procedures Completes required paperwork/orders, email order request and authorization in a timely and accurate manner. Accurately records patient medical history on designated history form. Correlates test results and other lab data with exam being performed Perform intravenous injections of GBCA when required Monitor supplies/stock room/equipment. Proactively initiates ordering or repairs, as needed. Maintain a clean and orderly work environment Maintain all necessary QA documentation Effectively communicates with Radiologist for protocols, as needed Effectively communicates with PACS/IT for imaging distribution, as necessary Provides informative explanations and reassurance of the safety and process of the exam and directly assists in biopsy procedures and performs intravenous injections of GBCA agents. Education/Licensing/Certification: Junior College/Associate Degree in Radiologic Technology ARRT, (MRI (If determined by regulation changes) Experience (years and type): 1-3 years of Radiology, MRI experience Breast imaging experience preferred Knowledge and Skills: Must be able to perform procedures in accordance to the CR departmental protocols and standards. Operates MRI scanners, IV contrast injectors, O2 tanks. Computer literate and knowledgeable of CR programs Must be up to date with local and federal regulations that apply to their licensure and role Must be able to review the patient history and identify any allergies that could interfere with the patient’s test Must be able to communicate with the Radiologist or referring MD if a protocol needs to be obtained or a test needs to be altered Must be able to report malfunctioning equipment to the Radiology engineer Must be able to lift 50lbs Must have positive communication skills and excellent customer service Performs basic patient care functions and informs the Radiologist or nurse of any change in the patient’s condition if needed Must be competent to perform IVs Flexibility with shift hours and days as determined by business needs Travel Required (% of time): 0-25% Physical Requirements & Work Environment: Primarily walking and sitting Lift 25-50lbs. Position is Permanent and hours will be determined by business need. Flex schedule meaning hours can be in 8-hour shifts coving 7:30am to 9:00 pm if needed. Technologist will be involved in patient care including safety screening, scanning procedures, intravenous injections of GBCAs, and direct assistance to the radiologist in MRI guided biopsy procedures. Technologist will be exposed to infectious diseases, contaminated equipment, cleaning chemicals, prolonged sitting, some heavy lifting.
