The APP will manage and see follow-up patients in the outpatient Neurology department, focusing on Movement Disorders, requiring frequent visits to support this growing patient panel. Responsibilities include providing direct clinical care, conducting comprehensive health appraisals, managing advanced movement disorders, and assisting with clinical trials.
Candidates must possess a Master's degree from an accredited school/college of nursing or a Physician Assistant Program, along with current Illinois licensure as an RN/APRN or PA, and necessary certifications like BLS and ACLS. Two years of experience in Neurology is preferred.
Provide direct clinical care to patients.Conduct comprehensive appraisals of patients' health status by taking health histories and performing physical examinations in clinical area of expertise.Clinical management of advanced and atypical parkinsonismProvide care for patients in advanced stages of movement disorders — including homebound individuals, those with dementia requiring extensive/frequent visits, and those with multiple comorbidities.Triage and see patients in person or virtually for any worrisome messages, questions, or concernsManage continuous levodopa infusions (e.g. subcutaneous, gastro-jejunal systems), which often require more frequent clinical visitsAssist with local clinical trial study visitsAssist in regional program building and development for the Movement Disorders divisionHelp coordinate multidisciplinary roundPrescribe/order medications, therapies; order/interpret laboratory tests, x-rays and procedures according to clinical privileges.Evaluate patients to determine their need for further health care.Provide comprehensive teaching to patients and families.Document in the medical record all care and education provided and/or procedures performed for which the Licensed Advanced Practice Provider is responsible.Refer to other disciplines as appropriate.Serve as a consultant to other disciplines in areas of expertise.Integrate research-based knowledge and clinical expertise in decision making.Exemplify a professional image in appearance, manner and presentation.Advocate for patients, families, coworkers, and the community.Maintain certifications and continuing education as required for licensure and privileging.Serve as a patient advocate and role model for "Patients First".Participate in unit/departmental/divisional or hospital committees/task forces as appropriate.Employ comprehensive teaching strategies for patients and their families.Develop and participate in programs to meet continuing education needs of staff.Serve as a role model and preceptor to students.Provide formal education to both internal and external groups pertinent to area of specialtyParticipate in quality improvement and/or research initiatives for specific patient population as appropriate. QualificationsRequired:Master’s degree from an accredited school/college of nursing OR master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program Current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois. Current license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois. Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by a national certifying body as approved by the Illinois Department of Regulation APRN Board. OR Master’s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program/Current license as a Physician Assistant in the State of Illinois.
