The kennel technician is responsible for the care, feeding, medicating, and cleaning of hospitalized patients and boarding clients, which includes tasks like cleaning, laundry, bathing, and walking dogs. Responsibilities also involve restocking supplies, assisting with post-operative patients, helping with animal restraint during exams, and maintaining detailed records of patient status.
Candidates must possess knowledge of cleaning and disinfecting methods along with proper animal restraint techniques, and be able to perform moderately heavy physical labor. Essential abilities include patiently attending to sick or injured animals, learning to administer medications, recognizing abnormal conditions, and effectively following directions.
