Residential Counselor Shifts: Monday-Friday 3:00PM-11:00PM Per Diem/ On-Call Job Summary

The Residential Counselor provides direct care and support to adults receiving services through COMHAR’s Community Residential Rehabilitation Services (CRRS), located in the Kensington section of North Philadelphia. CRRS offers a homelike, structured living environment that promotes independence, self-determination, and recovery. Residential Counselors support individuals with mental health, behavioral health, emotional, and social challenges by assisting with daily living skills, goal setting, and community integration.

In this role, counselors work with individuals and groups to help clients identify and achieve personal, social, and recreational goals through educational and skill-building activities offered both within the residence and in the community. Emphasis is placed on fostering positive interpersonal relationships, encouraging healthy social interactions through weekly community meetings, and reinforcing skills consistently. Residential Counselors collaborate with clinical teams and support clients’ participation in COMHAR day services to further enhance social, emotional, and independent living skills, while maintaining a safe, supportive, and respectful residential environment.

• Key Responsibilities Responsible for communication on and between shifts of client information and supervisory directives Deliver quality and consistent individual and group activities, i.e., counseling sessions, hours meetings, supervising residents’ chores, monitoring medications, activities of daily living(shopping, meal preparation, cooking, personal hygiene, laundry), social and leisure skills.
• Ensures safety and security of the facility including COMHAR property, valuables, medication storage, client funds, transpasses, petty cash, client rents, and crisis management.
• Maintains involvement in the development and review of residential service plans, psychosocial evaluations and annual reviews.
• Maintains required or requested timely and accurate chart documentation such as progress notes, residential service plans, house logs, incident reports, medication checklist, chore/meal schedules, etc.
