The Patient Care Technician provides direct and indirect patient care, including monitoring vital signs, performing phlebotomy, and assisting with patient mobility. They also serve as a Patient Safety Assistant to observe and document patient behavior while ensuring a safe environment.
Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and possess a BLS certification. Preferred qualifications include CNA certification, EMT licensure, or MA certification.
A non-licensed healthcare provider employed by Erlanger Health System is responsible for direct and/or indirect care of patients under the direction of a licensed nurse.
Required: High School education or equivalent.

The employee works on the different nursing medical/surgical nursing units or specialty areas based on the staffing needs of each nursing unit. Assignments may vary from day to day.
The individual must be adept at moving and transporting patients, measuring intake and output, obtaining height and weight, monitoring vital signs, administering baths and other personal care, performing phlebotomy and point of care testing. The individual must also have the knowledge and the skill to use equipment that is necessary for job performance and patient care.
The employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The employee must be able to exercise judgment to recognize and identify signs and symptoms that require further evaluation by a licensed nurse. The employee must be able to effectively communicate with customers and team members, be flexible and adapt easily to change. The employee must demonstrate exceptional people skills, the ability to handle complaints and resolve conflict when necessary.
