Job Details The Senior Clinical Research Coordinator supports IRB-approved oncology biobank operations within Thomas Jefferson University’s Biorepository. This role includes obtaining informed patient consent, coordination of specimen collection from clinical staff, processing specimens for long term storage, and accurate data management. The position requires strong communication skills and prior laboratory experience, as well as comfort interacting with clinical staff in operating rooms and the pathology department. Importantly, this is an operational and compliance-focused role and does not involve conducting any independent research.
Development of collection specific documents, checklists, and workflows. Implement collection procedures, including obtaining informed consent from patients and procuring biospecimens. Process blood and tissue to prepare samples for long-term storage in accordance with established protocols Enter detailed information regarding specimen collection, processing, and patient chart review into designated databases. Participate in designated after-hours coverage during select nights and weekends to respond to freezer alarms as needed and ensure specimen integrity. Coordinate and manage projects supported by the biorepository. Trains Clinical Research Coordinators on the proper procedures for conducting project specific collections. Assist the Lab Manager with routine laboratory maintenance, equipment upkeep, and preparation for College of American Pathologists (CAP) inspections, including documentation review and audit readiness tasks. Prepare interim reports, summaries, and statistics to support project oversight and compliance. Organize, maintain, and securely store all documentation and data related to biospecimen collection, processing, and consent. Provide clerical and technical support to ensure adherence to biorepository workflows and maintain the accuracy and integrity of all collected information. Office 50% Hospital 30% Laboratory 20% Basic lab skills required including proficient use of micropipettes, pipette aid, and centrifuge. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Self-driven to complete tasks and maintain quality of biobanks and translational studies with minor supervision. Ability to work on a unique and changing schedule, and to be consistently dependable. Strong desire to learn and think critically. Ability to prioritize without deadlines. Ability to multitask under pressure. Good communication by email, phone, text, etc. Ability to work independently but also as a team player in different environments including with fellow coordinators, research groups, office setting, etc. Ability to be on feet and walk for hours in a day.
HS Diploma or equivalent Bachelor’s degree in Biology or a related field with at least 3 years of relevant experience, or Master's degree in biology or related field with at least 1 year of relevant experience (preferred) NOTE: This is a non-traditional clinical research role focused on biorepository operations, biospecimen collection, processing, storage, and data management. This position does not involve direct patient care, patient-facing clinical trial coordination, study recruitment, or management of therapeutic clinical trials.
