The Medical Assistant provides clinical support in a pain management practice, including preparing patients for exams and assisting with in-office procedures. They are also responsible for real-time documentation of patient encounters and maintaining accurate electronic medical records.
A high school diploma is required, and certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA) is preferred. Candidates should have experience in pain management or orthopedics and proficiency with EMR systems.
The Medical Assistant supports healthcare providers in a pain management practice by performing both clinical duties and as well as accurately documenting patient encounters in real time. This role ensures efficient workflow, high-quality patient care, and precise medical records.
Key Responsibilities Accurately document patient visits, including history, physical exams, procedures, and treatment plans in the electronic medical record (EMR) Transcribe physician dictation and assist with chart completion Maintain real-time documentation during patient encounters Ensure completeness and accuracy of medical records Assist providers with order entry, referrals, and prescriptions as directed Prepare patients for examination (vital signs, medical history, medication reconciliation) Assist providers during examinations and in-office procedures (e.g., injections) Perform basic clinical tasks such as EKGs, urine drug screens, and specimen collection Clean and prepare exam rooms between patients Handle phone calls, patient questions, and communication with pharmacies or other providers
High school diploma or equivalent required; certification as a Medical Assistant preferred (CMA, RMA) Previous experience as a medical assistant, preferably in pain management, orthopedics, or a related specialty Familiarity with EMR systems Knowledge of medical terminology, especially related to pain management and musculoskeletal conditions Strong typing and documentation skills Skills & Competencies Excellent attention to detail and accuracy Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment Professionalism and patient-centered approach Understanding of patient privacy and HIPAA regulations Work Environment Outpatient pain management clinic Frequent interaction with patients experiencing chronic pain conditions Combination of desk work and clinical duties Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods Occasional lifting of medical supplies or assisting patients Manual dexterity for clinical tasks and computer use Preferred Experience (Optional) Experience with interventional pain procedures (e.g., nerve blocks, epidural injections) Knowledge of controlled substance protocols and documentation BLS/CPR certification
