The Dermatology Nurse Practitioner conducts comprehensive skin evaluations, diagnoses dermatologic conditions, and performs procedures such as biopsies and cosmetic treatments. They also collaborate with dermatologists to develop treatment plans and provide patient education on skin health and disease prevention.
Candidates must hold a Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program and possess current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner. A minimum of 1–2 years of dermatology or relevant experience is preferred, along with national board certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
Conduct comprehensive dermatologic evaluations and skin exams. Diagnose and manage conditions such as acne, eczema, psoriasis, skin cancers, infections, and hair/nail disorders. Perform procedures & cosmetic treatments (as privileged) Order and interpret diagnostic tests (e.g., lab work, cultures, pathology reports). Prescribe medications and develop treatment plans. Educate patients on skincare, disease prevention, and treatment compliance. Document patient encounters accurately and timely in the electronic health record (EHR). Collaborate with dermatologist on complex or high-risk cases Qualifications Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. If APRN was licensed prior to August 1, 1995, master's degree in nursing is preferred. Minimum 1–2 years of dermatology or relevant NP experience preferred. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in each state of practice. Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances in each state of practice. State Controlled Substance License (if required by State) National board certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (NP-C) or (FNP-BC). Obtains and subsequently maintains required specific competencies and certifications as outlined on privilege form.
