The phlebotomist is responsible for collecting blood, tissue, and fluid samples from patients using appropriate venipuncture methods. They must prioritize collection requests, ensure correct patient identification, and accurately label samples for testing.
Candidates should have previous experience as a phlebotomist or phlebotomy technician and a phlebotomy diploma is preferred. Proficiency in patient identification methods, legal requirements for blood draws, and computer data entry is required.

In this role, you will collect blood, tissue, and fluid samples from patients. This is a role that can make a significant impact on people’s lives, helping them identify underlying conditions and stay healthy.
Prioritize requests for sample collection based on urgency Collect patients’ personal information Determine the correct venipuncture method for each patient Provide patients with reassurance during the collection process Use sterilized needles, vials, and other equipment to draw blood Correctly label samples and send them for testing
Previous experience as a Phlebotomist or Phlebotomy Technician Phlebotomy diploma preferred Knowledge of best practices in patient identification methods Familiarity with the legal requirements regarding blood draws and fluid samples Strong computer and data entry skills
