This position is the 2nd level of Surgical Technologist career ladder What You Will Do Provide safe efficient age specific nursing care to patients/families using nursing interventions in order to assist them to attain, maintain, regain, and sustain optimal health status. Provide patient care/function in a primary scrub position and takes responsibility for precepting others in the scrub role. Assist with technical responsibilities in assigned operative procedures and serve as resource in an area of expertise. Assure appropriate instruments/supplies are present and in proper working condition, and demonstrate ability to operate service specific equipment. Provide labeled medications with correct doses on the sterile field and adheres to patient safety expectations. Support the operative team, includes following patient care hand off protocol, or standards, protocols and policies in collaboration with a RN/ACN. Actively participate in the quality improvement process. Involved in learning, self-improvement and performs as a knowledge expert and resource person for the service line. Additional Responsibilities Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies and standards. For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation. Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
Education Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist program (Required) Certification is preferred but not required Work Experience Expert knowledge of asepsis, instrumentation, suture and surgical procedures in a defined specialty. (Required) Meets Surgical Technologist II promotional/maintenance requirements. (Required) Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Good communication skills. Ability to work in a team environment. Ability to use a wide variety of technical equipment to meet patient care needs and prescribed medical therapies.
