Qualifications
High School graduate or equivalent required
Graduation of a radiology education program under the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)
American Registry of Radiologic Technologist, RT (R) registered radiologic technologist certification required
American Registry of Radiologic Technologist, RT (C), registry eligible/certification completed or Computed Tomography experience preferred
Current Texas Medical Board Radiologic Technologist License required
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Role and responsibilities
Schedules patient exams according to the procedure, schedule availability, and after insurance authorization has been obtained, if required, and medical necessity has been verified, if needed
Maintains good rapport with physician’s offices and other department’s staff
Verifies patient identification and examination to be performed before starting a procedure
Assumes responsibility for assigned area; controls inventory of supplies for assigned area and cleans and disinfects exam rooms and equipment as required.
Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric and general population.
Uses independent judgment during exams to accurately differentiate between normal and pathological findings
Assumes care for physical and psychological needs of patients during examinations and procedures
Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients during examinations and procedures.
Reports equipment malfunction or damage to the department supervisor in a timely manner and contacts appropriate equipment maintenance contract for service calls
Practices the radiation protection principle – As Low As Reasonably Achievable
Understands and practices proper use of all equipment; never operates equipment inconsistent with manufacturer's instruction.
Explains exams to the patient. Instructs and assists the patient in assuming the physical position for examination.
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
Evaluates images for technical quality as well as proper film marking and patient identification
Operates and maintains digital radiographic equipment
Operates the computed tomography equipment, power injector, and determines proper dosing and safety factors for the patient and examination, starts IV catheters on requisite patients
Obtains patient’s consent for intravenous contrast injection prior to the introduction of contrast
Operates the mobile fluoroscopic equipment, as needed, and ensures Quality Control logs for fluoroscopic equipment are maintained
Practices aseptic technique and infection control protocols as necessary
Documentation meets current standards and department/hospital policy
Performs other clerical duties as needed
