The Medical Laboratory Scientist processes and tests laboratory specimens while maintaining instrumentation and ensuring regulatory compliance. They also act as a resource for staff, assisting with equipment validation, training, and quality control protocols.
Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in medical technology or equivalent and possess at least two years of experience in an acute care facility. Professional certification from an agency such as ASCP, NCA, AMT, or CSMLS is required within 12 months of hire.

Processes and tests all types of laboratory specimens; reviews and reports lab results; performs operational duties, maintenance and advanced troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and equipment; acts as resource to other laboratory personnel. Additional responsibility includes assisting with new equipment validation and implementation, employee training and competency assessment, regulatory compliance responsibilities for CAP, TCJ, AABB or other agencies, quality assurance, quality control and instrument maintenance.
