The Mammography Technologist provides diagnostic mammography and DEXA imaging services while ensuring patient safety and comfort. They are responsible for producing high-quality images, maintaining equipment, and accurately documenting procedures in the medical record.
Candidates must be graduates of an accredited Radiology Technologist Program and hold ARRT (M) and IEMA certifications. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is also required, with one year of mammography experience preferred.
Maintains accountability for patient safety throughout the imaging process, including screening, preparation, monitoring, and post-procedure care. Produces diagnostic-quality images using approved protocols and professional standards. Apply professional judgment within approved protocols to optimize image quality and address imaging challenges. Reviews images prior to exam completion and initiates corrective action when diagnostic adequacy is not met. Administers contrast in accordance with policy, including screening for contraindications and patient monitoring (as applicable). Operates imaging equipment and maintains imaging room readiness. Identifies equipment performance issues and initiates follow-up through established service processes. Coordinates exam flow and prioritizes time-sensitive studies. Maintains accurate and timely documentation in medical record and image archive system, including exam set-up, image routing, result availability and charging accuracy. Adheres to organizational values, ethical standards, and compliance requirements. Consistently upholds all applicable quality and safety standards within diagnostic imaging, such as radiation safety, MRI safety, Infection prevention measures safe practices (as applicable to the role) to protect self, patients, visitors and team members Ensures a positive patient experience throughout care delivery Supports department initiatives to improve relationships, reliability, efficiency, growth Supports additional responsibilities aligned with patient care and department needs Performs breast screening exams, diagnostic mammograms and bone density (Dexa) scans, as needed. Produces images that meet ACR image quality critique standards Supplies patient with relevant patient education materials Verifies correct order for exam scheduled and aligns with previous recommendation prior to all exams. Communicates with patient before procedure to obtain history, explain risks and what can be expected; communicates during the exam to monitor safety, and comfort. Prepares images and compiles study for radiologist relaying all appropriate information. Performs mammography quality control procedures; maintains records.
